Spencer County Fairgrounds
Grandview, Indiana
In March 2004, a new Spencer County fairground was established on a 30 acre tract of land graciously gifted by American Electric Power, as infrastructure issues forced the fair to move from its home of many years in the Rockport City Park. While the annual Fall fair continued to be the main attraction other annual events were added, including demolition derbies, pageants, auctions and a host of competitions that continue to draw hundreds of people. A first-class motorsports arena was constructed, as well as a large event building, concession stand and a multi-functional restroom facility – all made possible through generous support from both the public & private sector, coupled with countless volunteer hours.
In 2016, however, at the invitation of then Rockport Mayor Gay Ann Harney the decision was made to move the county fair event back to the newly renovated Rockport city park because of the historical significance. The Spencer County fairgrounds in Grandview continues to host an annual “Krashin’ 4 Kids” Shriner’s Hospital for Children event and Octoberfest Ag Days with future plans to partner with event promoters and nonprofit organizations to expand the schedule of events, which will utilize the property seven months of the year. The facility is also available for private event rental.
